Town of Ulster, NY
The Town of Ulster, located in Ulster County, New York, is a town that consists of 7 total water districts (Ulster, Halcyon Park, Bright Acres, Cherry Hill, Spring Lake, East Kingston & Glenerie). These districts span the distance of 28.88 square miles. The department managing these districts consists of 6 total employees, one always covering the night shift. Leading the department is John Rose, a 36-year industry veteran who has impressively tracked and repaired “574” (since the time of this article) water main breaks in his time! Schmidt’s Wholesale is proud to say out of those 36 years, we have been able to provide John with 27 years of superior service during his growth throughout the water department.
The Town of Ulster, like many other municipalities, have found their way to utilizing Badger’s NaaS Beacon cellular solution. Coming from a competitor’s meter solution with “many product failures”, John was able to simply state, “I just don’t have any problems anymore.” Ulster has been slowly deploying Badger Meter’s cellular solution Town wide since early 2019 and looks to complete the project within the next few years. Recently, John has purchased Badger’s new innovative E-Series G2 Ultrasonic Meter with dual output capabilities to install in their Bright Acres effluent line so that they can monitor flows with their new SCADA system. Schmidt’s Wholesale wants to thank John Rose and the Town of Ulster Water department, along with the many customers like them, who have given us the opportunity to show that our Badger Meter solution is one that proves, “every drop counts.”
City of Canandaigua
The name Canandaigua is derived from the Native Americans which means “chosen spot”. If you have ever had the pleasure of visiting, you will know this City was aptly named.
The city is located at the northern end of Canandaigua Lake, in the Finger Lakes Region, the largest wine-producing area in New York. With a population of over 10,000 residents, it was very important for the community to have the latest in metering technology. Working with many members of the City’s team such as Jim Sprague (Director Public Works) Nancy Abdallah (City Clerk/Treasurer) & John Goodwin (City Manager) as well as Bob Murphy (Supervisor, Water/Sewer Maintenance) who were all instrumental in making this project come to fruition. The decision to move forward with Badger Meters Beacon software aligned with Cellular Endpoints would be a game changer for not only reading but billing and identifying any issues within their system from this point forward.
The City of Canandaigua quickly realized what an integral importance that not only tracking the supply of water to the resident’s meter ultra-accurately but also the possible leak prevention that this new Metering technology could bring. The city started by testing a dozen Cellular Endpoint units and quickly saw each benefit in “real time”. As the test was in effect Bob Murphy explained “Once we saw these in action, my decision was made!”
Today the system is functioning in the capacity that it had been intended for and proving it’s worth on a constant basis.
